The Military Medical School of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army was the university’s forerunner. It was established in October 1931, with the agreement of the Central Military Commission, in Ruijin, Jiangxi Province, the birthplace of the Provisional Central Government of the Soviet Republic of China. The Chinese Communist Party established the first medical school.
He Cheng, Chief of the Central Military Commission’s General Military Medical Department, was also the principal. On February 22nd, 1932, the inauguration ceremony was conducted in Yudu, Jiangxi province. Comrade Mao Zedong articulated the concepts of “strong in political conviction, superb in technical skills,” and Commander-in-chief Zhu De delivered a speech. The Central Military Commission approved changing the school’s name to the Health School of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army in October 1932. Absorbed the Medical College:
It absorbed the Medical College of Northeast University and a portion of former Harbin Medical University in January 1947, and in 1948 it established four branch schools, with the first and second branch schools later developing into present Harbin Medical University, the third branch returning to university headquarters, and the fourth branch developing into present Chengde Medical College.
Entire Northeast of China:
The entire northeast of China was liberated in November 1948, and the institution was ordered to relocate to Shenyang. It absorbed and merged the old national Shenyang Medical School (originally known as the Manchuria Medical College, created in 1911 by the Japanese South Manchuria Railway) and the former private Liaoning Medical College (formerly known as Mukden Medical College, founded by the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland in 1883). According to a State Department of Education resolution on departmental adjustments, the pharmacy school broke from CMU in October 1952 and founded a new institution known as Northern-East pharmacy school (present Shenyang Pharmaceutical University).
China Medical University was transferred to the national Ministry of Health in August 1954. Under the instructions of the State Council, China Medical University changed its name to Shenyang Medical College in September 1956 but reverted to “China Medical University” in January 1978. The university began to be jointly administered by Liaoning province and the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China in 2000; in December 2015, the university became a co-constructed university by the Liaoning provincial government, the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and the Ministry of Education.
Stomatology School:
Stomatology education at China Medical University began in 1948. The stomatology department at CMU’s First Hospital was the School of Stomatology’s forerunner. The Department of Stomatology at CMU was re-established in 1985, and in 1998, the National Health and Family Planning Commission, the Ministry of Education, and Liaoning Province approved the establishment of the School of Stomatology, a co-constructed entity.
The School of Stomatology currently has four basic stomatology scientific departments and ten clinical stomatology departments, as well as a multi-level stomatology training system consisting of five-year undergraduate, master’s, doctorate, and postdoctoral programs.
